In-Folio rollout day evaluation (NSC)

On Wednesday 8th July, the National Star College hosted the rollout of the new, free, electronic portfolio program, called ‘In-Folio’. In-Folio has been developed by the Rix Centre, Techdis, and six specialist colleges, with the aim of providing students with anytime, anywhere, web access to their own electronic portfolios. We trialled this program with a handful of staff and students and, at the rollout, we shared our experiences with practitioners from other specialist colleges. Rebecca Redmond, Polly White, Gavin Parsons and Alex Giles all made excellent presentations, showcasing the work they have undertaken with In-Folio. The day was filmed and this will form part of a DVD which will be used to introduce and promote the package to other colleges and, later, to schools and community learning places.

Despite some initial glitches with the program, as might be expected from a product in development, it offers the potential for our students to take responsibility for their own portfolios in a way which has simply not been possible with other packages. Staff enthusiasm has been such that there was a request to set up every student with an account for the current (autumn 2009) term and this will include some trialling with switch users. I’ll keep you posted on how it all works out!
